Storage: Should be stored in cool and dry warehouse and keep away from fire.
Application: O-chlorotoluene is one of the important organic chemical raw materials, intermediates of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, peroxides, dyes and other industrial products. Widely used as a solvent for reacting and dissolving special products.
Fire Fighting Measures
Suitable extinguishing media: Water spray (fog), foam, dry chemical, Carbon Dioxide.
In a fire or if heated, a pressure increase will occur and the container may burst. Promptly isolate the scene by removing all persons from the vicinity of the incident if there is a fire. No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. This material is toxic to aquatic organisms. Fire water contaminated with this material must be contained and prevented from being discharged to any waterway, sewer or drain.
Fire-fighters should wear appropriate protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a full face-piece operated in positive pressure mode.
Hazard Statements
Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
Harmful if inhaled.
First Aids Measures
Eye contact: Raise eyelids and rinse with running water or saline. Get medical attention.
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly wash skin with soap and water.
Ingestion: Drink plenty of warm water and induce vomiting. Medical treatment.
Inhalation: Quickly escape from the scene to fresh air. Keep the airway open. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, give artificial respiration immediately. Get medical attention.
Accidental Release Measures
For non-emergency personnel:
No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering. Do not touch or walk through spilled material. Avoid breathing vapor or mist. Provide adequate ventilation. Put on appropriate personal protective equipment.
For emergency responders:
Wear an appropriate NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator if mist, vapor or dust is generated.
Environmental Precautions:
Do not allow material to be released to the environment without proper governmental permits
Methods for Containment and Cleaning up:
Small spill: Stop leak if without risk. Move containers from spill area. Dilute with water and mop up if water-soluble or absorb with an inert dry material and place in an appropriate waste disposal container. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.
Additional information:
Don't use a brush or compressed air for cleaning surfaces or clothing.
Clear spills immediately.
