Hazardous Decomposition Products
Nitrogen Trichloride, Chlorine, Hydrogen chlorine.
Decomposition can initiated with a heat source and can propagate throughout the mass with the evolution of dense toxic and irritating fumes.
Material to Avoid
1. Contact with mast organic matter or easily chlorinated or oxidized
materials may result in fire.
2. Contact with ammonia, ammonium salts, urea, or similar compounds that contain nitrogen may form nitrogen trichloride, a highly explosive compound.
3. Mixture with nonionic surface active agents may result in exothermic reactions causing fire or explosion.
4. Contact with water releases extremely dense and noxious fumes containing chlorine and other toxic gases.
First Aid
Ingestion:
Feed milk followed by olive oil, induce vomiting by putting finger to back of throat if large amount has been ingested and patient is conscious. Keep head below hips to prevent aspiration. Call physician.
Eye irritation:
Flush eyes with large quantities of running water for at least 15 minutes. If victim is wearing contact lenses, remove them. Hold eyelids apart during the flushing to ensure rinsing of entire surface of the eye and lids with water.DO NOT let victim rub eye(s). Do not attempt to neutralize with chemical agents. Oils/ointments should not be used at this time. Get medical attention if eye irritation occurs.
Skin irritation:
In case of contact, immediately wash with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes before reuse or discard if they cannot be thoroughly cleaned.
Inhalation:
Remove victim to fresh air. If not breathing, gibe artificial respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth. If breathing is labored, give oxygen. Get medical assistance as soon as possible.
Handling and Storage
Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Keep container tightly closed when not in use. After removing material, retie polyethylene bag and replace lid.
